Note for Macintosh users: the Mac version of IE 5 will not accept self-signed security certificates (which is what this department uses), therefore you will not be able to use IE to access the secure areas of the department's web site. Use a non-Microsoft browser instead. (I recommend Mozilla 1.0 for Macintosh, Windows, and Linux. Among the many cool features: tabbed windows, and pop-up ad blocking.)
| The first time your browser is used to access Geography's secure web site
the browser will announce the receipt of an untrusted certificate. (It's untrusted
because it was created and verified by the Department of Geography and your browser
has not heard of us - yet.) Click the 'View Certificate' button to continue the process of enabling trust and accepting the certificate. |

| This panel shows the certificate information.
Optionally, you can see more information under the 'Details' tab. Go ahead, look. No one is watching. Click the "Install Certificate..." button to continue. |

| Here's some pleasure reading. Click the "Next" button to continue. |

| This panel allows you to define where to store your shiny new certificate. Trust Microsoft to handle something for you, for once, by choosing the first option. Click the "Next" button to continue. |

| Don't let this panel fool you. We're only half way finished.
Click the 'Finish' button to continue. |

| The thumbprint data shown by your browser should match the thumbprints in picture on the right. If the data doesn't match, click the 'No' button to abort this process and notify
Geography's network administrator. If thumbprints match matches the picture, click the 'Yes' button to continue. |

| OK! | ![]() |
| Now you're back to the second panel, working your way out Click the 'OK' button. |

| Now you're back where you started. Click the 'Yes' button to proceed. The browser should continue to load the requested secure web page. You should not have to go through this procedure again unless you change or reinstall your browser. |
