Thomas L. Mote, Professor

My research interests include hydroclimatology, climatic hazards, climate change, and the application of remote sensing in climate studies.

My interests in hydroclimatology span from the Arctic to the subtropics. Recent topics of research include monitoring melting of the Greenland ice sheet, mapping changes in global terrestrial snow cover,  examining the role of urbanization on precipitation, and assessing the effect of large mesoconvective systems on precipitation in the subtropics. A number of these topics have included applications of spaceborne remote sensing (i.e. satellite climatology), particularly with microwave instruments such as SSM/I, AMSR and TRMM. Previous and ongoing research on climatic hazards includes flood and wind impacts of mesoconvective systems.
